Let’s chat subconscious.
The realm below the surface - the magic dark.
The subconscious mind is the magician behind the scenes, the part of you that works in the background. You know that person who records all the court records during court proceedings? Your subconscious mind is that record keeper for your life.
It stores every memory, feeling, belief, thought - and holds them in the records.
You can think of your brain like a giant computer. The conscious mind are the scenes you see in the external.. like reading this blog.
The subconscious mind stores the programs running in the background, these programs help you remember how to tie your shoes, ride a bike, brushing your teeth, ect.
Programs get stored in the subconscious through heightened emotion, repetition, visualisation, and more repetition.
Here’s the even crazier part,
From the age of 0 to 7 years old, your brain is in a theta brainwave state. In hypnosis this is known as the ‘programming state’. Everything your parents, teachers, guardians are teaching you LITERALLY becomes a program operating in the subconscious mind.
To change your behind the scenes operating powers requires some inner child work.
Most adults are walking around in their adult bodies, but with the subconscious operating responses of their 7 year old self.
Let’s solidify a concrete example.
Imagine when you were a child and you worked really hard on an art piece. You were so excited to show it to your mom, but that day she was in a horrible mood. She looks at the picture and says “that’s not very good. You can do better.”
Ouch. This leads to a heightened emotional state of not feeling good enough for Mom’s approval, and the subconscious takes in the message of “I’m not good enough.”
Of course this was unintentional on your Mom’s part, but the subconscious mind doesn't read intention.
It only reads - heightened emotion, your caretaker telling you information, and that information getting stored in the brain.
This could lead to hesitancy around creating art in the future and can manifest itself in a number of ways, such as being scared of failing so never trying new things, procrastination because you’re afraid it won’t be perfect, feeling like nothing you do is ever “good enough”.
This program can be rewritten. Nothing is a permanent program if you choose for it not to be.
The steps required:
Awareness of the program to begin with. (these often show up as limiting beliefs).
It’s helpful to have a coach or therapist as someone who can help you work through these. Outside perspective always helps.
Reprogramming through brain wave state (hypnosis), visualization, heightened emotions, and repetition.
You will know the program has shifted when you no longer act the same as that old version of yourself.
Your best investment right now? A journal. A journal is the gateway into your subconscious mind and connects the brain to the body via the throat center.
Start journaling about your life and what you’d have to believe in order to exist in this life you’ve created. You’ll be amazed at what you find.
